new_red_cyan_1024x1024The big news today amongst the bank bailouts is Blackstone Group LP and JP Morgan Chase & Co are teaming with the big studios to raise over $1 billion to refit cinemas with almost 20,000 digital screens.  This will be a move to reduce the print cost per film for distribution. Prints are heavy and come in many metal canisters which have to be shipped.  In college I worked at a theater chain and I can personally attest to how heavy these prints are. But more importantly all these digital screens can be cheaply upgraded to 3D for the many 3D films coming down the pipe.  See my List: 3D movie List
